The mission of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is to regulate the use of nuclear energy and materials to protect health, safety, security and the environment and to respect Canada's international commitments on the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

In addition to nuclear power plants and nuclear research facilities, the CNSC regulates numerous other uses of nuclear material. Some examples include radioisotopes used in the treatment of cancer, the operation of uranium mines and refineries, and the use of radioactive sources for oil exploration and in instruments such as precipitation measurement devices.

The CNSC is an independent agency of the Government of Canada and operates in a transparent manner. Its operations are open to formal public scrutiny.

Summary of duties:
With general direction, the Project Management Officer has overall responsibility to provide project management support for various improvement initiatives and projects including:

Conducting complex business process analysis to identify and evaluate opportunities for improvement with respect to the effectiveness and efficiency of the CNSC´s business processes.
Recommending process improvement solutions and assisting in their development and implementation across the CNSC Operations Branch.
Leading and supporting several complex projects at any given time and facilitating workshops.
Monitoring and evaluating the relevance of project objectives, risks, performance trends and success, and reporting on these to CNSC management.
Providing technical expertise and guidance in the areas of project management, change management, performance management and process improvement.
Leading and/or supporting the Operations Branch contribution to the CNSC planning, monitoring and reporting cycle.
Producing reports, briefing notes and executive summaries.
Qualifications:
To be considered for this position you must have:
University degree in Business/Operations Management or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
In depth experience in management systems, such as: ISO 9000 program implementation, American Society for Quality (ASQ) certification program, National Quality Institute, Program Management, Project Management Institute etc.
Sound experience in business planning and project management methodology, practices and tools.
Knowledge:
Strong knowledge of business process management principles and financial processes.
Knowledge of the best practices, principles, methodologies and tools for business planning, business process management, change management, risk management, performance measurement/reporting.
Knowledge of research and analytical techniques.
Knowledge of the IAEA safety standards and in particular those related to quality management (GS-R-1,TECDOC 1090, DS 113 and DS-138).
Understanding of quality management standards such as: ISO 9000:2000, CSA quality standards and the NQI framework.
Understanding of the CNSC´s operational and supporting activities and processes.
Understanding of the strategic goals, mandate, organizational structure and regulatory framework of the CNSC.

Conditions of Employment:
Some Travelling Required across Canada.
Security Clearance: Reliability Status
This position requires a Canadian Reliability Status security clearance. The security clearance is a basic condition of employment and may require that you have at least five (5) years of verifiable history. History that cannot be verified may be grounds for denial of clearance.
