Job Description

Ottawa’s economy is composed of research orientated sectors such as scientific, high tech, education, medical and government.  These industries employ professionals that often attend conferences to present research papers and collaborate on new initiatives.  As members of international and national association boards, many are in a position to influence decisions on destination and site selection for future conventions.  We are seeking applications for the following position:
Host Ambassador (HR038)
Permanent, full-time position
Reporting to the Executive Director of Sales, the Host Ambassador will work with professionals in our community to motivate and support these leaders to invite their affiliated associations to consider Ottawa for their next meeting or conference.   
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
•    Post secondary education in a related field
•    Minimum 3 years experience in sales or meeting management
•    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
•    Superior organizational and administrative skills
•    Ability to work with limited supervision in a fast-paced environment
•    Proficiency in all aspects of Microsoft Office software
•    Experience working with a database management system
•    Ability to work outside normal working hours
ASSETS
•    Bilingualism – English/French
•    Knowledge of the hospitality or tourism industry
•    Familiar with Membership-driven organizations
PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
•    Work closely with industry stakeholders and Ottawa Tourism sales managers to identify opportunities for host support
•    Attend networking opportunities through Ottawa University, Carleton, Ottawa Chamber of Commerce, OCRI and local events to present program to market
•    Provide administrative support, volunteers network, and conference servicing for bid preparation and on-site services
•    Identify and give access to convention/meeting planning, strategic planning and marketing support for national and international convention opportunities
•    Arranging and conducting site inspections for convention planners
•    Assistance with providing convention sales promotions as required
•    Conducting destination information presentations to various size groups
•    Maintaining a thorough knowledge of Ottawa Tourism attributes and member product and facilities
•    Ability to network and develop pipeline across varied outlets to promote host program locally
